Gluten Free Food Collected at the Freedom Food Drive on August 20, 2011

Thanks to Jennifer Kepp's drive (pun intended) to make healthy, hard-to-find foods accessible for all, she collected 318 shelf stable items--90% of which were low or free from salt or sugar and some of which were gluten, dairy, and nut free.  She also also collected 84 jars of baby foods and 10 grocery bags full of fresh produce.

Thanks, Jennifer, for all your hard work!

About Hunger and Resilience

Throughout the month of October 2011, St. James Cathedral brings us Michael Nye's exhibit About Hunger and Resilience, an interactive exhibit about the many ways in which we all hunger.

In addition to Michael Nye's work, St. James Cathedral is looking for anti-hunger agencies who would be interested in setting up a booth during the run of the exhibit.  This booth would provide the agencies with a chance to talk about the great work they do to fight hunger in Chicago and, also, would provide St. James Cathedral with volunteers for the exhibit itself.

If your agency is interested in hosting a booth at this exhibit, please contact Susan Rex.

Food Day

Food day is "a nationwide campaign for delicious, healthy, and affordable food produced in a sustainable, humane way."  A grassroots effort, Food day seeks to:

1)  Promote healthy diets

2)  Support sustainable family farms

3) Expand access to food and end hunger

4) Reform factory farms

5) Promote children's health by curbing junk food marketing

Visit the Food Day website to learn more about events happening in Chicago (hint: SNAPshots may soon be a part of Food Day!) or to learn how you and your agency can coordinate your own Food Day event.
